Tastes of Umbria

Food: Umbrian cooking is earthy and rooted in tradition:

  • Black truffles, especially from Norcia, where the norcineria tradition of cured pork originated
  • Castelluccio lentils and farro
  • Strangozzi pasta
  • Torta al testo flatbread
  • Excellent extra-virgin olive oil
  • Lake Trasimeno fish
  • Chocolate from Perugia, including the Eurochocolate festival each October

Wines:

  • Sagrantino di Montefalco is a bold, tannic DOCG red and Umbria’s signature.
  • Orvieto Classico is a fresh, easy white.
  • Let’s not forget Torgiano Rosso Riserva (the Lungarotti family also runs a superb wine museum there) and Grechetto.
